I became a gold member in the Amazon Vine program where I can get up to eight products per day for free, just for reviewing them. At the end of the year, Amazon will send me a 1099 for the market value of all received products. So far I thought about using this as hobby income to avoid self-employment tax on that income, but somehow there must be a better way to avoid these 33% taxes on things that I did get (and some of them are actually useful for me) but which I mostly don’t end up using, in other words not getting any value out of.
